A classic Italian Caffè Macchiato is a harmonious blend of bold espresso and velvety milk foam. The term 'Macchiato' means 'marked or stained' in Italian, reflecting its distinctive appearance. This coffee drink is also known as an Espresso Macchiato. Whichever name you prefer, we can both agree that it's the perfect choice for a rich, bold caffeine fix!
To craft this beverage at home, you'll need an espresso machine and a milk frother. If you're using stovetop heating, instant espresso, such as NESCAFÉ Gold Espresso Intense, is a convenient option, and an electric frother or a frother wand for frothing the milk.
How to Make a Macchiato
To make a Macchiato, start by warming up two espresso shot glasses or demitasse cups. You can either do this with your machine or hot water.
Brew one shot/1 fl oz (25mL) espresso into each cup.
Steam the milk until it reaches 140-150 °F (60-65°C), or until the pitcher is too hot to touch.
Carefully spoon 1-2 teaspoons of foam on top of each espresso shot and serve.
What if I don't have an Espresso Machine?
To make a Macchiato without an espresso machine, start by warming up two espresso shot glasses or demitasse cups.
